re: Equality and Diversity

My interpretation of Tolkien's works is one of equality and diversity, where the races are considered different but equally important, interdependent, and supportive of the same overarching goal (Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, and those of the race of Man at least). As a role-player, it is troubling to me that this is even an issue for people. Insomuch that anyone role-playing a character that is anything other than the race of Man can be made to feel apologetic for role-playing within Bree, for example, I see this as problematic. Just yesterday I was conversing with a player that role-plays a warrior from Gondor and is feeling conflicted because her character is female. To me its a non-issue. And as for the term "of the race of Man", it is long-winded and has perhaps raised a few eyebrows. But like any of Tolkien's works, the reader is better served to look at them while taking into consideration the time and place they were written. This all being said, I can only imagine what kind of in-game obstacles members of your group might sometimes encounter as role-players. I wanted to acknowledge that and say that I enjoy your kinship theme. ~ Best

I suspect it depends on where, when, and with who. While some players, unfortunately, are jerks, others are perhaps improperly manifesting an honest idea of "This normally wouldn't happen." I think the same is said for any other in-game obstacles...Jecinda Trecalia doesn't have such, but that's because her preferred counterpart(s) themselves are elven ladies, and something that as much comes up is her relative lack of refined social etiquette and the consequences of her failures. All that having been said, we greatly appreciate your coming by to visit and perhaps we shall hear from you in the future. Should you come across any of us (assuming you're on Landroval Server), perhaps you'll introduce yourself to us?

I have role-played many different relationships in the game, from friendships to casual conversations, from one night stands to full-on loving relationships that resulted in marriage and offspring. As someone who is comfortable RPing any gender or sexuality it troubles me that there are those who are very closed-minded in their ideas of what is 'proper' in Middle-earth. I can understand it, certainly, and being all about diversity we must allow for those viewpoints, but it isn't proper to insist that everyone behave the same way, or adhere to the same set of rules when it comes to this sort of thing. As long as everyone is polite about it, there is ample room in LOTRO for everyone to enjoy whatever they wish to do. Just abide by the Golden Rule.

Heh, I keep looking for the "like" button or the "+karma" buttons here.  To the OP, that was a wonderful post that shows a good and generous heart.  I second Lady Ashigaru's sentiment.  If you happen across any Knights of the White Lady, please do say hello.
